Ulysses S. Grant Memorial
Provided executive oversight as the Deputy Architect of the restoration of the memorial, sculpted by Henry Merwin Shrady over a span of 20 years, is the largest equestrian monument in the United States. Originally completed in 1925, it underwent a comprehensive restoration effort by professional conservators to address corrosion, stains, and damaged elements. The bronze sculpture was meticulously cleaned of debris, standing water, and lacquer coating loss. Structural repairs, including fixing cracks and replacing missing parts, were also carried out. More than 150 missing or broken pieces, from swords to chain links, were recast and reinstalled. The marble plinths were restored, with joints repointed and stains removed.
